A neighbour told a murder trial he heard the 'horrendous screams' of a mum 'being killed by her cage fighter ex'.

Gerard Bristow, 46, said he was taking a wrongly delivered parcel to a neighbour when he heard 'screaming' coming from another house on Upholland Road in Wigan.

Prosecutors allege that Andrew Wadsworth, 37, had murdered his ex-partner Melissa Belshaw at her home on the same street, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Ms Belshaw was found dead after suffering a 'series of devastating stab wounds', prosecutors told the jury.

Jurors have heard Wadsworth, a former professional cage fighter who had been released from prison on licence, is accused of attempting to murder Mr Bristow, following the killing of year-old Ms Belshaw.

A resident said they heard the 'most horrendous screams' coming from Ms Belshaw's house.
